Max Scherzer Needs Just Four Innings To Record 100th Career 10+ Strikeout Game

Max Scherzer may not have any of the four no-hitters of the young MLB season, but he is making history in other ways. The Washington Nationals ace decided to go on strikeout rampage on Saturday at Yankee Stadium.

Coming into Saturday afternoon’s game, Scherzer had 99 games with 10+ strikeouts for his career. Given the type of pitcher he is, it was inevitable that he would bump that mark up to 100 sooner or later.

The fact that it only took him four innings to do it? *shakes head in disbelief*

For all you readers who don’t know how baseball works, each team only gets 12 outs through four innings. Therefore, not only did Scherzer record 10 Ks on Saturday, but he recorded 10 of the first dozen outs via strikeout.

Check out some more of Saturday’s filthiness:

Then there’s the fact that he accomplished this against one of the most potent lineups in the MLB today. Bronx Bombers my ass!

Max Scherzer is now one of just five pitchers in baseball history to strike out 10+ batters in 100 games.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure standing alone with Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez on any list probably means you’re good at pitching.

But that’s not all! Scherzer also broke into the top-20 on the all-time strikeouts list during Saturday’s masterpiece.

The fact that Max Scherzer and his wife, Erica, welcomed their third child, Derek, into the world earlier this week makes Saturday’s dominant performance all the more special.

He may be well into fatherhood, but Mad Max still has PLENTY of game!
