“The Yankees shortstop, 46, had a longtime crush on Carey, 50, hanging her posters in his bedroom as a teen, and even had a game plan to marry her.

“‘I had this plan,’ he told me. ‘I was going to come to New York. I was going to get on the Yankees. I was going to meet you, and I was going to steal you away from Tony Sony’ — his name for Tommy (Mottola, Carey’s first husband) — ‘and then we were going to get married.’”

Carey calls her time with Jeter “a short and sweet dream.””

Jeter is now happily married with children, and a part owner of the Miami Marlins.
