Mac Jones Left Fans Excited After Preseason Debut Aided By Cam Newton

Prior to Mac Jones first preseason game, he sought advice from current Patriots starter Cam Newton.

“He came and talked to me, and we talked it out about just his expectation. Every young quarterback goes through it — the excitement, the anticipation,” Newton relayed after the Patriots’ 22-13 win at Gillette Stadium via ESPN. “He wants to be so perfect, and I see his preparation is always pristine. That’s what I admire about him.”

Mac Jones ended up playing a decent amount in the preseason game, and had a pretty successful first appearance in live action.

Jones went 13-19 in the game with a team-high 87 yards passing.

It wasn’t necessarily the stat line that had Pats fans excited, but rather how comfortable Mac Jones looked running an NFL offense.

We all talked about how limited Mac Jones will probably be in the NFL. He doesn’t run particularly well, his arm strength doesn’t jump off the screen, and he likely needs play makers around him to be successful.

But what Jones may just give Bill Belichick and the Patriots is a confident young man who can win football games right away in this league.

If his first game was any indication, Mac Jones is not going to be intimidated by the NFL. And doesn’t that sound a lot like another guy who was able to enjoy a whole lot of winning in New England?
