Kevin Love Reportedly Covered All Lost Wages For Workers At Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse

It’s no secret that playing without fans hurt the profits for NBA and sports organizations everywhere. What many people fail to think about is how it affected workers in those empty stadiums. Cleveland Cavaliers big man Kevin Love reportedly covered lost wages for employees at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Love had previously announced a $100,000 donation to Cavs’ arena and support staff and now he has taken it to the next level.

Kevin Love is an all-star on the court when he is at his healthiest, but he should be praised for his work off the court. It’s hard to even fathom or calculate the number of wages that were lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic taking a hit on NBA stadiums. Whatever the number, it is amazing that one player like Kevin Love would step up and take that as his responsibility.

However, Kevin Love isn’t the only Cavalier to help out Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Cavs center Andre Drummond also announced a $60,000 donation to the arena staff. That donation was in addition to a $100,000 gift for personal protective equipment for his hometown area in Connecticut.

It is nice to see players taking the initiative to help out people in their organization who don’t make nearly as much money. On the other hand, more responsibility should fall on the owners of these organizations. Dan Gilbert, the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, is worth billions. Where is his hand in all of this?

Nevertheless, Kevin Love should be commended for his efforts. He didn’t have to tackle this all by himself. He chose to. Props to Love for being an outstanding player and a good steward off the court.
