Barcelona’s presidential candidate Joan Laporte has sounded out a very gutsy warning on Lionel Messi.
Laporte who is running alongside Antoni Freixa and Victor Font for the Catalan club’s elections which comes up in four days time has warned that their talisman will pack his bags and leave if he’s not voted in.

Remember Messi is out of contract at Camp Nou come this summer and wants away from the club.
But Laporte says he can make him think otherwise. Via Marca, he said,
“I have a great relationship with Leo [Messi] and he will consider whatever proposal I make.
“If I don’t win, I am sure that Leo will not stay at Barcelona. He will weigh up the offer we make him. I’m convinced that if the other candidates win, Messi will not remain at Barcelona.
“He wasn’t happy during Freixa’s time on the board. He’s not guided just by money. He wants a competitive team to win.
“I’m sure he’ll listen to my offer, just as I am [sure] that if someone else wins he will leave.”

Really ballsy assertion from Laporte, that. Well, if he’s ballsy enough to think he can make Messi stay, then Barca better heed. They desperately need him to after all.
