Count ESPN’s Jeff Passan among the long list of people in or around baseball who have seen enough of the Atlanta Braves’ “tomahawk chop”.
The World Series will shift to Atlanta on Friday night, which means that that fans will be packing the stadium and doing their chopping antics in unison on and off for the duration of the game.
While some don’t see the action as disrespectful to Native Americans, others think Braves fans shouldn’t be allowed to openly engage in the childish action.
Jeff Passan went on a whole Twitter tirade on Friday to explain while he’ll be shaking his head when he sees fans doing the “tomahawk chop” this week.
The best part of writing about the tomahawk chop is the reams of grown adults bleating on about how unfair and wrong it would be for a baseball team to stop encouraging them to wave their arms up and down and cosplay natives and they want to make it seem like you're the soft one.

This is not about being woke. It’s about acknowledging that an atrocity happened here, about owning a dark part of our past, and saying maybe, just maybe, not engaging in something that’s wildly ahistorical because it feels good, and for no other reason, is the right thing to do.

Today, there are zero federally recognized tribes in Georgia. Zero. A truly racist American policy eradicated them. Remember, the Braves aren’t called the Braves to honor history. They got that nickname when they were in Boston as an homage to the Tammany Hall political machine.

Fans had a mixed reaction to Jeff Passan’s take on the tomahawk chop – with Braves fans getting pretty defensive on the matter.

Brooklyn trolleys killed 100’s of people, it’s crazy how the Dodgers are so insensitive to these tragedies. Dodgers name change imminent!

We get it. And nobody should do the wave anymore because of how polluted our oceans are. We understand

I will never stop chopping #GoBraves pic.twitter.com/80D52Fgb6I

Jeff Passan will undoubtedly be public enemy #1 for Braves fans who won’t ever stop chopping.
My take on the whole thing is that the chop looks pretty silly anyways, and should probably be stopped regardless of how offensive it is. But for Atlanta fans, they think its cool, and they’re gonna stick with it for as long as possible.
There will be plenty of tomahawk-choppin’ going on Friday for World Series game three. And Jeff Passan is using his platform to try to lay the groundwork for the whole thing to come to an end in the near future.
Good luck.
