George Floyd’s Brother Speaks On Controversial Raiders ‘I Can Breathe’ Tweet

The Las Vegas Raiders were under fire yesterday for their social media post in the wake of the Derek Chauvin Verdict. After Chauvin was found guilty of all three counts in the murder of George Floyd, the Raiders tweeted out, “I can breathe.”

This drew heavy criticism from a lot of people on the web, but owner Mark Davis insisted that he would not be taking the post down anyways.

While a lot of people were offended by the Raiders’ post, George Floyd’s brother was not.

“On behalf of our family, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Las Vegas Raiders organization and its leadership for their support of our family and for our nation’s ongoing pursuit of justice and equality for all,” Floyd said.

Philonise Floyd would go on to talk about the need for unity during this time in history.

“Now, more than ever, we must come together as one and continue on in this fight. For the first time in almost a year, our family has taken a breath. And I know that goes for so many across the nation and globe, as well. Let’s take this breath together in honor of my big brother who couldn’t. Let’s do it for George.”

George Floyd’s death last year was the first of a few instances of police brutality that sparked a movement both in the sports world, and throughout many different communities.

Hopefully we can continue the first against police brutality and systemic racism in the country.
