Former Jets Safety Jamal Adams Shares Sam Darnold Potential Exit Thoughts

With the quarterback carousel in full motion, many believe that the New York Jets and Sam Darnold are heading towards a divorce. While Darnold has shown some flashes of brilliance here and there, his overall tenure in New York has been unsuccessful, and the team and fanbase both seem ready to move on.

Jamal Adams seemingly knew the time to get out for the Jets when he demanded a trade last season, He got his wish, making the playoffs for the first time in his career with the Seahawks this season. Adams was asked what his thoughts were on Sam Darnold. He defended the young quarterback.

“Absolutely he can play,” Adams said of Darnold, via NFL.com. “Right now, he’s lost a lot of confidence. You get all this speculation [about] a new quarterback. [People] want Trevor [Lawrence], they want Deshaun [Watson] — those things are definitely getting to him. And I know it is because he’s human at the end of the day.”

Darnold has remained quiet while his name has been brought up in trade rumors.

“Wherever he lands, he’s going to be fine,” Adams continued. “I’m pulling for Sammy. I shot him a text the other day. He’s going to be fine, man. He’s going to get his confidence back, and he’s going to start ripping again.”

I’m with Jamal Adams here. Sam Darnold is not the problem in New York, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him succeed elsewhere. A change of scenery could prove to be helpful for Darnold–who has shown that the talent is there.
