Regarding the murder of George Floyd, Spears says that, “The spirit broke in this country. It broke me.” The former Dallas Cowboys defensive end gets especially emotional when talking about his 11-year-old son who asked him, “Why didn’t he [the officer] get off of him?”
In the video, Spears pleas for “white people to understand and be against this:”
“Not to tell us, not to ease and soothe by having conversations,” the 37-year-old said. “We need you to be against this.”
Spears has become a regular on ESPN shows such as Get Up, First Take, and NFL Live over the past couple years. Spears played eight seasons for the Dallas Cowboys and one season for the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL before retiring after the 2013 season.
