Did Bill Belichick Throw Shade At Rob Gronkowski?

Bill Belichick has a certain way about him when he speaks. You often have to read between the lines to understand what he’s really saying. Here’s what he said about 49ers tight end George Kittle ahead of their showdown on Sunday.

“Kittle is a great player,” Belichick said, via ESPN.com. “He does everything well. I’d put him right at the top of the league there, period. His ability to run, catch, get open, after the catch, block, he does everything at a high level. He’s as good as anybody that I’ve coached or as good as anybody that we’ve played against.”

Seems like he’s just giving credit to a great player, right? Not so fast. Former Patriots great Rob Ninkovich had an issue with Belichicks comments.

“I don’t get why he is doing that,” Ninkovich told WEEI on Thursday. “It seems like a little shot. It seems like a little jab … I just think it may be a slight little jab there, which seems a little unnecessary. But, Kittle is good. You can’t argue with the fact that Kittle is the best tight end in the game right now. I personally think he is. He is better than [Travis] Kelce in the running game.

It seems to me that there was nothing to really see in Belichick’s comments about Kittle. Then again, Ninkovich knows Belichick way better than I do. If he says there was a job, there was probably a jab.

If that’s the case, i don’t see the point for Bill to make the comment. Kittle is great, Gronk is great, can’t we just leave it at that?
