Dalvin Cook Has An Interesting Reason For Keeping His No. 33 After New Rule Change

The NFL is changing its rules to allow for more leniency for their players when it comes to the numbers they’re allowed to wear. Part of the new  rule allows for running backs to wear numbers in the 1-9 range. So many were speculating that Vikings RB Dalvin Cook would switch to #4, the number he wore in college.

Dalvin revealed that he will not be switching from No. 33 despite the new rule, but his reason may be surprising. The NFL has a strange rule that requires players to pay out of pocket for all unsold jerseys if players choose to change their number. Obviously, Dalvin has a lot of jerseys out there, so he won’t be making the switch.

According to Pro Football Talk, Dalvin Cook would have to pay over $1 Million if he switched from jersey number 33.

Amazingly, the NFL requires the players who change numbers to buy the unsold jerseys at their retail price. At most, players should have to reimburse the actual production costs.

So, Dalvin Cook will be just fine wearing the same number he has worn for his entire professional career. He’s been pretty damn good in the No. 33 jersey, so maybe it’s best that he sticks with it.
