Chiefs Locker Room Celebrations Are Out, Glass Partitions Are In

The Chiefs posted a modern COVID-era tour of the stadium before training camp opened, and it was absolutely fascinating. Watching the return of MLB vs the return of the NBA has been night and day. The MLB has whole team out with COVID, and the NBA doesn’t have any positive tests across the league, so you tell me, does the bubble atmosphere work? Which has me concerned about the NFL, another league moving forward without a bubble.

The Chiefs have the obvious things like temperature checks and a health questionnaire on the way into the facility. From there, everyone carries a little tile that knows who is supposed to be around each other, so if a team member (Level 1) spends too much time around a Level 3 staffer, their tile will start beeping. Changes to all meal areas, meeting rooms and locker rooms have been made to promote social distancing. Probably the biggest change is that there are now multiple locker rooms broken down by position groups with six feet of space between each. I assume all teams are taking the same measures, so this is a huge undertaking but will hopefully protect the players and the staff. Will all of this work? No clue. I hope so. I’m not trying to be dramatic but if we don’t have NFL this season, my life will be over.

Locker room celebrations will presumably be a thing of the past, which means we’ll have to wait for a vaccine to see Andy Reid dance with his team again. The blows just keep coming. Seriously, though, huge props to the people putting these plans together and implementing them in all facilities. As a football fan, I love and thank you.
