Cowboys Are ‘Likely’ to Release WR Amari Cooper by Start of New League Year

The 2022 NFL Combine is underway in Indianapolis and it tends to shake things up.

And so it has.

A report emerged late on Thursday night from The Dallas Morning News that rumors from Indy is that the Cowboys’ wide receiver trio of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb have likely played their last game together and “it would be an upset if Amari Cooper returns” to the team.

“The Cowboys believed last summer they were entering their final season with Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup all at wide receiver. Several months later, as the 2022 league year approaches, that belief is unchanged.

A split is considered all but a foregone conclusion.

Almost certainly, the band won’t be back together.

There are still too many moving pieces to say exactly how the situation will unfold, one person close to the situation cautioned Thursday. It could be Gallup who rejoins Lamb in Dallas. It could be Cooper. At this stage, however, the shared opinion from several sources at the NFL combine is it would be an upset if Cooper returns.”

Now early this morning Adam Schefter is reporting the Cowboys plan to release Amari Cooper.

Cowboys are “likely” to release WR Amari Copper by the start of the new league year, per league sources.

Cooper is due $20 million in fully guaranteed money on the fifth day of the new league year, March 20.

Amari Cooper is due a $20 million salary that becomes fully guaranteed if he’s still on the roster March 20th.

A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Cooper tied for the team lead with eight receiving touchdowns last season to go with 68 catches and 865 yards.

But it was his first time since the 2017 season that he finished with under 1,000 receiving yards.

Definitely feels like time for Cooper and the Cowboys to part ways…
