Converse Makes Sneakers Out Of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant Title Jackets

Converse paid homage to a couple of beloved championship franchises with their newest sneaker design. They collaborated with streetwear brand Chinatown Market to bring a new flavor to their Chuck Taylor and Pro Leather sneakers. The show design was inspired by the colorful jackets designed by Jeff Hamilton. The Jackets commemorated title runs for Michael Jordan and the Bulls in the ’90s and Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in the ’00s.

“The inspiration for this collaboration started back when I was a basketball fan as a kid,” said Mike Cherman, founder of Chinatown Market. “I could go to the mall and buy vintage jerseys and classic NBA nostalgia as a kid, but I could never get my hands on a Jeff Hamilton jacket, let alone know where they came from at the time.”

The designer, Jeff Hamilton was in attendance when Michael Jordan and the Bulls won all six of their Finals in the 90s. He was also there for the Lakers winning their three-peat crown by way of sweep over the Nets in 2002.

For Hamilton, it was simply surreal to be in the same room and form a personal bond with a legendary icon like Jordan himself.

“It was a dream of a lifetime – originally meeting Michael, him asking for a jacket,” said Hamilton. “Being in the locker room during those iconic times was something I could have never imagined.”

The latest release from Converse is only a preview of what fans can expect from the brand. And if their next project can top Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant championship sneakers it’s time for Converse fans to get excited.
