Colombia Give Former Manchester United Manager Carlos Queiroz The Boot

Carlos Queiroz and Colombia have parted ways.

This is coming after Los Cafeteros suffered a 6-1 trouncing at the hands of their South American rivals Ecuador during the last international break.

That defeat, as humiliating as it were, had thrown their qualification for the Qatar 2022 World Cup into serious doubt. And that ultimately prompted the FA to swing the axe.

So, it was a tweet on the country’s official handle on Tuesday morning that revealed..

Excerpts from his dismissal read: “The FCF was proud to have [Queiroz] for almost two years, in which he gave us his entire working capacity, knowledge and experience.

“The contribution that you gave us will serve to continue the development of the projects that are being carried out with all the national teams of our country.

“We wish Carlos Queiroz and his team the best in their future career plans.”

Colombia actually played some good football under Queiroz. Their fans will not forget in a hurry that sensational run to the 2019 Copa America quarter-finals where they only bowed out after a penalty shootout defeat to Uruguay.

The romance was sweet while it lasted, but Queiroz will have to move on now.

He even saw it coming. Earlier this week, he had reportedly told Iranian newspaper Farhikhtegan Daily that his time with the team was ‘coming to an end’. Maybe the ex-Manchester United manager will return to Tehrān, and reunite with the side which he led to consecutive World Cup tournaments.

Either way, he’s no longer with Colombia for now.
