Jacksonville Jaguars Reportedly Hiring Former First-Rounder Byron Leftwich To Be Their Head Coach

It sure sounds like Byron Leftwich will be the first head coach domino to fall this offseason.

According to some reports, Leftwich is returning to Jacksonville — where he was a first round pick in 2003 — to be their next head coach. Apparently Leftwich had such a great interview with his former team on Tuesday that they decided to get the deal done before he could speak with any other interested teams.

Byron Leftwich had many great memories as the quarterback of the Jaguars. And this hire should definitely serve as a moral boost for a fan base that’s still reeling from the disaster that was the Urban Meyer tenure.

The 40-year-old Leftwich joined Bruce Arians’ Buccaneers staff after serving as a quarterbacks coach and interim offensive coordinator for the Cardinals. He will now join the ever-growing list of young, offensive minds who have taken over a franchise with the hopes of getting the most out of their young QB.

Leftwich’s success will now undoubtedly be measured by the growth of former first overall pick, Trevor Lawrence — who will now get the opportunity to work with his second head coach in as many years.

It’s pretty easy for an objective fan to wish success for Byron Leftwich in his return to Jacksonville.
