Almost three years after his late-night run-in with police officers, Milwaukee Bucks guard Sterling Brown has reached a $750,000 settlement agreement in his civil rights lawsuit against the city of Milwaukee.
Brown authorized his lawyer Mark Thomsen to sign the settlement agreement Friday after initially rejecting a $400,000 offer in October 2019.

Brown sued the city over his January 2018 arrest in a Walgreens parking lot, during which a taser was used on him and he was brutalized by Milwaukee police officers over a parking violation. Brown alleged that he was targeted and subjected to that treatment because he is a Black man.

Sterling Brown had already been offered a settlement by the city of Milwaukee in September 2019. At the time, he told ESPN that it was “a slap in the face,” emphasizing that money was not the issue.
“They tried to throw a few dollar amounts at me just to get me to shut up, and I really couldn’t take it because I’m not doing it for myself anymore, I’m doing it for everybody else around,” he said via ESPN.
“I’ve got plenty of people going through the same thing in Chicago and back at home. So I know it’s happening in Milwaukee, so I’m pretty much being that voice for those who don’t have the platform that I have to make this national news, to make this [discussed] around the country,” he continued. “So, that’s pretty much my current situation.”
Brown averaged 5.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist in his third season with the Bucks in 2019-20.
