Bo Schembechler’s Statue at Michigan Gets Vandalized

The statue of former Michigan Wolverines’ football head coach Bo Schembechler was vandalized in Ann Arbor overnight Wednesday with red paint and a message of support for the survivors of Robert Anderson’s sexual assaults.

Words right next to the statue read “Bo Knew” and “#hailtothevictims,” referencing the victims of alleged abuse by Dr. Robert Anderson, a former University of Michigan athletics doctor from the 1960s until 2003.

U-M spokesman Rick Fitzgerald said the university was looking into the vandalism.

“We understand and appreciate the passionate advocacy on behalf of those who were abused by the late Robert Anderson,” he said in a statement. “But the vandalism to the University of Michigan statue of Bo Schembechler will be investigated fully in order to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The statue was quickly cleaned up.

Statues have had a very rough go of it the last year or so.

Even imamate objects are susceptible to being cancelled.

Ohio State and Michigan will play for a spot in the Big Ten Championship this weekend in Ann Arbor.
