Bill Belichick Reportedly Looking to Hire Adam Gase For Next Season

New York Jets coach Adam Gase has to be fired at the end of the season, right?

Unless the Jets decide to do something crazy and keep Gase for another season, it looks like he could have a chance to land a job in New England.

It’s possible that Josh McDaniels lands a head coaching gig next season, and QB coach Jedd Fisch recently took the job as University of Arizona’s head coach. Bill Belichick is already looking at filling his coaching staff for 2021.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Gase is on Belichick’s radar.

“The Patriots’ staffing situation is another one to keep an eye on. QB coach Jedd Fisch is gone and OC Josh McDaniels might be too. Jets coach Adam Gase (assuming he’s fired), Browns assistant/ex-Patriots WR coach Chad O’Shea and current tight ends coach Nick Caley are three guys who I think could factor into the new setup. Gase worked for McDaniels in Denver, and O’Shea left Foxboro on good terms two years ago,” Breer wrote in his MMQB column.

Breer isn’t the only insider hearing the buzz of Adam Gase heading to Foxboro. The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin spoke with WEEI today and said Gase could very well be the next quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots.

“I heard some buzz last night. You hear the name to watch for the Patriots’ next quarterbacks coach: Mr. Adam Gase,” Volin said. “He goes all the way back to 1999 on the Michigan State staff with Josh McDaniels. They worked under Nick Saban. Adam Gase and McDaniels are tight. Look out for that one.”

Sideaction’s Latest:

If I’m a Patriots fan, I want Adam Gase as far away from my team as possible. There was a time when Gase was considered a quarterback guru, but he’s proven that he’s just an incompetent football coach. After failing with the Dolphins, Gase has gone 9-22 as the head coach of the Jets, and his offense has consistently ranked at the bottom of the league.

I’m not sure what Belichick sees in Gase, but it’s something to keep an eye on.
