Bill Belichick Is Low-Key Stacking A Bunch Of Talent Around Cam Newton

Last season was a transition year for Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.

It was the first time in twenty years that Belichick didn’t have Tom Brady at his disposal, and it showed. The Patriots went 7-9 last season with Cam Newton under center, and missed out on the playoffs in the first year of the new-look team.

Many analysts and fans have already deemed that Tom Brady has won the divorce from Bill Belichick (granted he won the Super Bowl in his first year with the Bucs), but Belichick may be up to something.

Despite Cam Newton’s weaknesses being exposed, Belichick signed him back for cheap. He’s expecting an uptick in production form the veteran QB, being as it’ll be his second year with OC Josh McDaniels.

Belichick also has some more wiggle room with his cap space this offseason. What better way to make your QB better than to get him some talent? So far, Belichick is doing just that.

The Patriots have started free agency by landing tight end Jonnu Smith and receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. They’ve also already landed Davon Godchaux, Trent Brown, and Jalen Mills.

Social media is buzzing with Bill Belichick wheeling and dealing in the early-going of free agency.

I think Bill Belichick viewed last year as an opportunity to evaluate what he had without Tom Brady. Now that he feels comfortable knowing what he’s working with, he’s going for it.

It would be very unwise to doubt Bill Belichick. It’s entirely possible that Belichick can win with Cam Newton as his quarterback. As crazy as that might sound, I wouldn’t bet against them man.
