Bikini Bottom Rule Gets Dismissed by Women’s Handball Team

Sometimes you just don’t feel like wearing the required uniform. One team is facing consequences for not wearing their bikini bottoms. The Norwegian women’s handball team is facing a fine for breaking the dress code and making a statement at the European Beach Handball Championships.

They showed up in shorts. Bikini bottoms are required for beach handball.

“The European Handball Federation (EHF) announced the fine on Monday, saying Norway had “improper clothing” when its players showed up wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms in the bronze medal match against Spain. The fine was for 1,500 euros which comes out to $1,767.39 in American dollars.

The EHF’s disciplinary commission said the shorts were “not according to the athlete uniform regulations defined in the IHF (International Handball Federation) beach handball rules of the game.”

Norway’s Handball Federation announced beforehand it would pay for the fine after permission was initially denied. Each player was fined 150 euros apiece to equate to the 1,500 total.”

The Norwegian Handball Federation has backed the team all the way, and has received permission to pay the fine.

They also posted a supportive message on Instagram.

“We are very proud of these girls who are at the European Championships in beach handball. They raised their voice and told us that enough is enough. We are the Norwegian Handball Federation and we stand behind you and support you. We will continue to fight to change the international regulations for attire so that players can play in the clothing they are comfortable with.”

They ended up winning Bronze, and posted a message thanking everyone for the support:
