Big Name Coach Being Linked To The Oregon Job Following The Mario Cristobal News

After a whole weekend of speculation about Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal, it was finally made official: he will, in fact, be leaving Eugene for the Miami Hurricanes job.

Mario Cristobal has done a good job bringing the Ducks back to college football prominence. But after being blown out by Utah in the Pac 12 Championship, he felt now was the time to head back to his South Florida roots.

With the wild coaching carousel in full affect, now the question becomes: who will take over Oregon’s program?

According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenhouse, Baylor’s Dave Aranda could be a candidate.

“Believe Oregon should go all in on Dave Aranda. Could be re-signing with Baylor, but nothing is done yet. He’s very loyal to BU for giving him a shot, but he also could be a better long-term fit in Eugene.”

Dave Aranda’s Bears recently squeaked out a big win in the Big 12 Championship game over Oklahoma State – effectively ending OSU’s playoff dream and putting Baylor in a New Years Day bowl. And maybe he’ll feel that now is the time to cash in.

To me, moving from Baylor to Oregon seems like a lateral move. But as we’ve seen over the past week, money talks more than anything in college football. And perhaps Oregon will open up their checkbooks big time for Aranda.

If I had to guess, I’d say Baylor will reach an extension agreement with Dave Aranda in the coming days. But nothing would surprise me at this point.
