Astros Reportedly Close To Deal To Bring Back Shortstop Carlos Correa

When free agency began post lockout, it looked like the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees were emerging as front runners for star shortstop Carlos Correa.

As last week moved on, it continued to be floated around that the Cubs would look to bring in Correa to fill the void left by Javier Baez — who joined the Tigers prior to the lockout in December.

But now, the Cubs have added defensive shortstop Andrelton Simmons to their roster. And the Yankees have appeared to move on, as well.

So an Astros reunion could be in order for Correa. And according to multiple reports, the two sides are exchanging price tags, with a deal appearing to be coming shortly.

Astros plan to make new offer to free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa shortly, source tells @TheAthletic. His potential return is creating buzz in camp. “Players can’t stop talking about it,” one source said.

Obviously, Astros players and fans would be ecstatic if Carlos Correa were to show up to Spring Training for his reunion in the coming days. And it’s starting to look like that’s a real possibility.

Throughout the whole sign-stealing scandal, Correa emerged as one of the most hated players on the Astros. But true to form, he continued to show up in the clutchest of moments.

Sure, it was exciting to think of other possible landing spots for Carlos Correa. But perhaps it just makes sense for him to spend the prime of his career in Houston.
