Anti-BLM Group Threatens Colin Kaepernick’s Netflix Series

Anti-BLM protesters are now reportedly threatening to disrupt his Netflix drama series “Colin in Black and White.” The word is that executives on the project sent staff an email with measures to protect the cast and crew. The anti-BLM group that made the threat was the Proud Boys, according to TMZ. There was supposed to be a protest on the set of the show last Friday. The event did not end up taking place, but the crew is still concerned about the threats.

Sideaction’s Latest:

Kaepernick was not on the set last week, which could be part of the reason the group decided not to protest. If you have not heard about the show, which is being put together by Kaepernick and Emmy winner Ava DuVernay, the series will take a look at the adolescent life of Kaepernick.

“With his act of protest, Colin Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race and justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture and for him, personally,” DuVernay said when the project was announced.

There is nothing quite like trying to protest a project that is, in and of itself, a protest. Hopefully, the project will be able to move forward and be released at its regularly scheduled time. While no release date is on the table for “Colin in Black and White,” Netflix has stated it remains one of the most highly anticipated releases for 2021 for the streaming service.

Colin Kaepernick has much to say about identity and what it is like to protest. DuVernay said that she couldn’t be happier to be than to tell this story with the team at Netflix. It is unfortunate that the production is being threatened, however, it is good that they are aware and it didn’t take them by surprise. Kaepernick has a big story to tell and I look forward to getting to see what the six-part series has to offer.
