Adam Gase Now Has A Rift With DC Gregg Williams

Another Monday morning has come and gone and Adam Gase somehow still has his job. The latest chapter in the never-ending dumpster fire that is the New York Jets is the apparent rift between Gase and Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams.

It started with a comment Williams made about the team’s lack of offensive production. After the Jets 24-0 loss against the Dolphins, Gase was asked about that comment.

“I wasn’t happy about it, but we talked about it,” Gase said to ESPN. “Right now, our players are doing such a good job as far as trying to get things righted. It’s just that everything we say, it matters. He understood that we have to set the right example.”

I’m sure Gregg Williams won’t be happy after Gase’s offensive failed to put up any points against the Dolphins of all teams. Williams original comments came during last week’s media availability. Williams was asked about the defense allowing 32.2 points per game.

“It’s not a very good number — and a lot of it’s not all defensively,” Williams said after Friday’s practice. “It’s points on the board and we’ve got to do a good job of that, and how you do that is make them kick more field goals, got to do a better job in field-position-type things.

When Williams was asked to elaborate on saying the problem wasn’t all with the defense he snapped. “You’d have to figure it out,” he said, ending his video call with reporters.

The bottom line here is that losing isn’t fun, and Adam Gase and Gregg Williams have done a lot of losing since they began their tenures with the Jets. They’re both probably going to be looking elsewhere for jobs next season, as the 0-6 Jets continue to show no signs of improvement. If it were up to me, I’d fire Gase and let Williams take over for the rest of the season. I mean, it can’t get any worse. Right?
