Bill Belichick Sounds Like He’s Trying To Get Julian Edelman To Come Out Of Retirement

Could Bill Belichick be looking at a familiar face to get more out of his offense?

During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show today, Belichick was asked about Julian Edelman. The head coach admitted that he still talks to the former receiver on a regular basis.

When he was asked if he’d try to get Julian Edelman out of retirement and back into the Patriots offense, Belichick didn’t necessarily shut down the idea.

Back when Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski left the Patriots to join the Buccaneers, Julian Edelman said Brady tried to get him to come along, as well.

“(Tom) hit me up the first day he signed there, like, ‘You wanna come down?'” Edelman said of a potential reunion with Brady and Rob Gronkowski in Tampa Bay. “I was like, ‘Absolutely not.'”

At that time, Edelman was still under contract with the Patriots, but in 2013, he said that he almost left New England to join the Giants in free agency.

“It was pretty close,” Edelman told the Manning brothers last year. “I went and visited down there in Jersey and met with (Tom) Coughlin and had nothing but respect for the organization … but I looked at my choices of going back to the Pats … (and) Peyton, thank you for taking (Wes) Welker off our hands … and the rest is history. You guys are saying, ‘Once a Giant, always a Giant.’ Well, ‘Almost a Giant, always a Patriot.'”

Julian Edelman seems perfectly content with his retirement. But perhaps that won’t stop Bill Belichick from trying…
