Joel Embiid Heat Tweets Got People’s Attention

Sixers fans look away.

Sixers big man Joel Embiid was watching the Miami Heat collapse against the Celtics on Wednesday. He shared his thoughts.

Philadelphia’s All-NBA center pondered on Twitter whether Boston’s Game 5 win over Miami spelled the end of the East finals as the Celtics took a 3-2 series lead to secure a closeout game at home.

It was Joel’s next tweet that caused some major movement on Twitter.

Clearly Embiid knows tweeting that will lead to speculation about his long term future in Philly. He also happens to be very close to Jimmy Butler. Butler and Embiid played well together during Butler’s stint in Philadelphia in 2018-19. After Miami eliminated Philadelphia in the East semifinals a few weeks back, Butler and Embiid shared a hug on the court.

Butler then declared that “I love” Embiid and “I still wish that I was on his team.”

After that same playoff loss, Embiid lamented Butler’s exit from Philadelphia, which the 76ers facilitated via a sign-and-trade to the Heat in 2019.

“I’m happy for him,” Embiid told reporters. “I won’t sit here and say I didn’t wish he was my teammate. I still don’t know how we let him go. I wish I could’ve gone to battle with him still, but it is what it is.”

Embiid has one year remaining on his contract.

But Embiid wants you to know that you’re “stupid” if you took his tweet the wrong way.

Joel is too smart, that’s why they call him Troel.
