The Lakers finished their season on a winning note.
Not too long after things turned sour. According to Wojnarowski’s tweet on Sunday evening, Vogel had “coached his final game” for the organization, and this decision was “expected to be shared with him” as soon as Monday.
Of course, if Woj tweeted it, all of the reporters in the post-game press conference knew about it before Vogel did.
Vogel was asked for comment, he told reporters: “I haven’t been told [expletitve].”
It was a massively awkward interaction

“I haven’t been told s— and I’m going to enjoy tonight’s game, celebrate what these young guys did in terms of scratching and clawing and getting back in this game and getting a W, and we’ll deal with tomorrow, tomorrow,” he told reporters during his postgame media availability.
Twitter reacted:
The Lakers had eight months to decide how they wanted to fire Frank Vogel and that's what they landed on. Just wow.

Everybody knew Vogel was done. For it to come out the way it did is just another unprofessional unserious note for a franchise that has operated in an unserious and unprofessional manner all season. Can you be adults please?

I think they just proved that the coach wasn't the problem by handling his dismissal in the way they did.

Need someone to explain to me how the Lakers thought it was professional to leak the news of Vogel's firing before even talking to Vogel about it, or even allowing him to finish his final press conference.
I need you to explain it to me real slowly, though.

The Lakers:
– Refused to give Frank Vogel more than a three-year deal
– Only extended him for one year, and did so a full year after he won a championship
– Leaked that he almost got fired midseason
– Leaked that he actually did get fired literal seconds after the season ended— Sam Quinn (@SamQuinnCBS) April 11, 2022
i was team “fire vogel” pretty much all year but the lakers are putting together an all time masterclass in “how to make sure no free agent or coach in their right mind wants to sign on to do business with you” and it’s kind of amazing

I’m the last person to feel bad for Vogel but what kind of image do you give off for future candidates with this firing leaking seconds after the game ends?
— Ricky’s Laker Propaganda Network (@MrRickySpanish) April 11, 2022
Vogel deserves better than this. If you want to fire someone, at least have the brass to tell them to their face first and let them leave with dignity. Learning on twitter before an end game press conference is peak cringe. That organization needs a cultural reset. TOXIC

My goodness, couldn't let Vogel enjoy a win?
— Trevor Lane (@Trevor_Lane) April 11, 2022
Feels wrong on so many levels that it was Monk and Reaves who had to sit at the presser postgame and answer questions about Frank Vogel and reports of his firing and not so any of the people actually responsible for this team failing

Vogel signed an original three-year contract in 2019 and received a one-year extension through 2022-23 this past offseason.
