Anthony Rizzo Admits To Being Hurt When Cubs Traded Him During His Chicago Return

Life is pretty good for Anthony Rizzo and the Yankees these days. After coming on strong over the past two weeks, the Bronx Bombers have asserted themselves as the hottest team in all of baseball and a true World Series contender.

But with all of that being said, it’s still hard for Rizzo not to get sentimental during his return to Chicago this weekend.

Sure, he’s playing a four-game set against the Sox and not the Cubs, but the Chicago media was intent on picking his brain about the Cubs exit right away regardless.

“People were kinda, ‘Oh that’s right, you guys are in town,’” said Rizzo prior to Thursday’s game via WGN, when speaking to reporters at Guaranteed Rate Field on Thursday before a four-game series against the White Sox. “But it just feels good always being here, and obviously a special place for me and my family. That will never change.”

Anthony Rizzo would go on to describe how he has no ill feelings towards the Cubs, but definitely felt hurt a little bit when Gm Jed Hoyer traded him away at the deadline last year.

“Jed Hoyer, Theo Epstein and Jason McLeod know me as a human being and saw me group up. They know Emily, my wife, and the whole family. I know who they are. It’s all about business. They had to make tough business decisions. And as a human being, was I pissed off? As a baseball player who understands the business of the game, I want Jed and all of them to have success. For Jed to build the next great Cubs team would be great for him and his family.”

Even after feelings sentimental about the good times in Chicago, Anthony Rizzo knows it’s time to flip the page. And he really couldn’t ask for a better opportunity than the one he has with the Yankees.

“We enjoyed our time,” said Anthony Rizzo, the first baseman for the Yankees, who’s tied for second in the American League in home runs said to The Athletic. “But now it’s fun to see us all start new journeys.”
