MLB umpire Angel Hernandez is now going to have to get on the mic to explain his horrible calls.
Just before Opening Day, the MLB announced that this season, umpires will be required to announce review decisions to the stadium after they make their decision.
This season Major League Umpires will conduct in-park announcements during the Replay Review process. We’re pleased to launch this enhancement to the ballpark and broadcast experiences. Training has been held in Arizona and Florida this spring. pic.twitter.com/vQvMXXPMjw

Immediately after the decision was announced, social media was blowing up with jokes at the expense of Angel Hernandez.

This means there is a non-zero chance that Angel Hernandez gets into a verbal argument over the PA system with fans over a call. You know umpires want to lecture booing fans. https://t.co/JJzxUo3VwX

Angel Hernandez had been in the news last year after his lawsuit was tossed out.
He had been suing the MLB, alleging that he was discriminated on based on his Cuban descent for larger roles in the postseason.
“The court concludes that no reasonable juror could find that MLB’s stated explanation is a pretext for discriminatory motive,” U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken wrote in granting MLB’s motion for a summary judgment last year.
Now, Angel Hernandez remains one of the longest tenure umpires in the game. And I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot of him on the mic this upcoming season.
Buckle up.
