Masters Chairman Speaks On The Absence Of Phil Mickelson

While Tiger Woods appears to be gearing up for a comeback at The Masters this weekend, his longtime rival, Phil Mickelson, will not be present.

After making some ignorant comments about the incoming Saudi League, Mickelson said he needed a break from competitive golf as he was losing sponsorships by the day.

With Phil Mickelson’s absence felt at the Masters, chairman Fred Ridley revealed that “lefty” was never asked not to come to the event.

“We did not disinvite Phil. Phil reached out to me and let me know that he did not intend to play. That was by way of a text. I thanked him for his courtesy,” Ridley said via Jason Sobel of the Action Newtwork.

Despite getting more and more active on social media in his old age, Phil Mickelson hasn’t been heard from since stepping away from golf following his controversial comments.

Obviously, when his career is looked back on, a lot of Mickelson’s best memories will have been made at Augusta National Golf Course.

Sure, his comments were asinine. But it would still be nice to see Phil Mickelson back at the Masters before it’s all said and done.
