Russell Westbrook Says “Plan” Is For Him To Run It Back With Lakers

After a disastrous season, it feels like a foregone conclusion that Russell Westbrook will be a one and done in LA. But apparently, nobody has sent him that memo.

When speaking after the Lakers were eliminated from postseason contention on Tuesday night, Westbrook revealed that he expects to be back with LA come next season.

“I mean, that’s the plan. But nothing is promised. Yes, we want to be able to see what that looks like, what that entails over the course of an 82-game season. But we’re not sure if that’s guaranteed, either. So I just hope that we have a chance to be able to do something.”

Russell Westbrook has been made out to be the scapegoat all season long amid the Lakers’ demise. And perhaps with good reason.

Despite coming in with a Hall of Fame resume, Westbrook simply hasn’t clicked with LeBron James and the rest of the scrappy Lakers roster.

As it stands, Russell Westbrook is averaging 18.5 PPG to go along with 7.1 assists. He’s set to make over $40 Million on his contract next season, so the Lakers are going to have to be clever about finding a new home for the dynamic point guard. But when push comes to shove, I find it impossible to believe LA would really run it back with Westbrook.
