Lee Corso Makes His Return to College Gameday: Fans Worry About Longtime Analyst During Opening Week

Perhaps it’s time for ESPN to start considering a retirement plan for longtime college football analyst, Lee Corso.

On Saturday, College Football Gameday returned, and while the 87 year old Corso took on his usual role on the popular show, fans were concerned with the product.

As fans were watching Lee Corso on Saturday morning, many swarmed to social media to share their take that it might be time for ESPN to consider a contingency plan for the aging analyst.

Prior to the season, Lee Corso spoke on the loyalty that ESPN has showed him throughout the years despite him having some health issues along the way.

“On May 16, 2010, I walked outside to get the newspaper and my wife Betsy looked at me, and she told me it looks like you had a stroke. ESPN, they could have dumped me then, because I couldn’t talk. That speaks well of ESPN. That’s why I’ve stayed so long, because they took care of me. It’s been 35 years,” he said in an interview with SI.

While it might be apparent to college football fans that Lee Corso should step away from Live TV, the man still seems to enjoy doing it. And over the years, he’s grown especially close with College Football Gameday co-host, Kirk Herbstreit.

“My favorite is Kirk Herbstreit. He’s like a second son to me. He’s probably the best all-around guy on television right now. I always joke that I’m deaf in my left ear because I’ve listened to Kirk talk so much.’’
