Villanova QB Daniel Smith Throws Improbable Touchdown Pass

College football has truly been a year-round event this season. Spring FCS football action continued on Saturday afternoon with games taking place across the country. Villanova football may have come out on the losing end against unbeaten Delaware, but quarterback Daniel Smith made sure to get his name among the trending topics of the weekend.

We’ve all seen epic quarterback highlights before. From evading a sack and making something out of nothing to dropping an absolute dime of a throw where only their receiver can make a play, QBs have the spotlight on them at all times. Smith did all of those things and then some on what has to be the top highlight of the entire sports weekend.

Are you kidding me?! What do you even call it? The “Shovel Special”? The “Somersault Spectacular”? If you had to watch that play more than once to wrap your head around it, trust me, you aren’t alone. Who knew that the laws of physics could even make such a highlight possible!

To top it all off, pay attention to how natural his reaction is after pulling off such a science-defying maneuver. My man literally just pops back up to his feet and throws his hands in the air like he meant to do that. What a performance.

While we’re yet to see an actual slow-motion replay from the actual broadcast of the game, it didn’t take the Twitter universe long to create its own. The slowed-down version truly makes you appreciate every aspect of the play even more.

Turns out Smith is a pretty smart guy as well. He is finishing up his Master’s in Business Administration this year. Prior to becoming a Wildcat, Smith attended undergrad at Campbell University.

While at Campbell, he set a slew of school records on the gridiron. His 5411 total yards of offense are the most by a Camel player all-time. He also is the program’s all-time leader in total touchdowns (56) and passing yards (3471).

Now, he can say he got the attention of ESPN fantasy football analyst Field Yates too. Bravo!
