Tyrod Taylor Speaks On Deshaun Watson Absence, Looks Forward To Starting At QB For The Texans

Tyrod Taylor might not be Deshaun Watson, but he’ll have to do for the Houston Texans. At least for now.

After Watson demanded a trade early in the offseason, he ended up facing something much more serious. Over 20 massage therapists have dominated headlines all Winter and Spring when they came out in droves to accuse Deshaun Watson of sexual assault.

While the star QB has denied the allegations, the lawsuits are likely to drag on for a while. With this being the case, the Texans have filled their quarterbacks room under the assumption that Deshaun Watson will not be present.

So far, the QB1 of the rebuilding Texans is veteran Tyrod Taylor.

When speaking to a pool of reporters during OTAs, Taylor spoke on filling the void left by Watson. He also talked about his relationship with Deshaun, and how this uncomfortable situation has been for him.

“Deshaun has played at a very high level throughout his career. I’ve been a fan of his and I know him personally, but the opportunity to be able to start here is something I look forward to,” he said. “Looking forward to going out and competing with the guys that we have in our locker room. Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb, Jordan Akins, David Johnson, Phillip Lindsay, Mark Ingram. All guys that I’ve admired from afar. Being able to be in the locker room with those guys and to go battle with those guys on Sundays is something that I’m looking forward to.”

Deshaun Watson Finished in Houston?

Tyrod Taylor’s comments further the assumptions that nobody expects Deshaun Watson to come back to the Texans in 2021. Even after signing Taylor, the Texans drafted Stanford QB Davis Mills, and also have Jeff Driskel as their third string.

Even as he struggles with his legal trouble, it has been reported that Deshaun Watson would still like to be traded away from the Texans.

The next part of the seemingly never-ending Deshaun Watson story is whether or not a team will take on the burden of a guy who has all this baggage at the moment.
