Tour De France Drops Lawsuit Against Sign Lady Who Caused Massive Crash

Controversy hit the Tour de France hard, yet again. But this time it had nothing to do with PEDs or anything of that nature. Actually, the person in question happens to be a middle-aged woman who just wanted her 10 seconds of fame for holding up a sign when the cameras were on her.

Unfortunately, a cyclist hit the sign, and ended up causing a whole crash involving over 20 Tour de France competitors.

The Tour De France menace woman fled the scene shortly thereafter. But she was found, and later arrested.

After the Tour de France initially threatened legal action against the crazy sign lady, Tour director Christian Prudhomme now says that they have decided to drop the lawsuit.

“We are withdrawing our complaint,” Prudhomme said Thursday, via Reuters. “This story has been blown out of proportion, but we wish to remind everyone of the safety rules on the race.

“If you come to the Tour, you hold your kid, you hold your pet and don’t cross the road carelessly. And above all, you respect the riders – they’re the ones worthy of live TV.”

The woman is facing a fine of up to $1,700 for inadvertently disrupting the Tour de France. But she’ll be happy to know that she will likely face no more punishment.

I guess this is the right call. Sure, the sign woman was extremely careless. But she wasn’t trying to hurt anybody.

I’m sure she feels just as bad as anyone, and hopes this story will die down soon.
