The Minnesota Timberwolves Have Reportedly Fired Coach Ryan Saunders

The Minnesota Timberwolves decided to part ways with coach Ryan Saunders on Sunday, according to reports.

Saunders, the son of legendary head coach Flip Saunders, has been deemed not to be the right fit for a young T-Wolves squad trying to take the next step. This news comes after the Timberwolves lost to the New York Knicks 99-103. They’re now 7-24 on the season, and in last place in the Western Conference.

Ryan Saunders was an abysmal 43-93 during his tenure as Timberwolves head coach.

This news comes just a month after team owner Glen Taylor gave Ryan Saunders a vote of confidence.

“I haven’t even talked to (basketball president Gersson Rosas) about that — he hasn’t brought it up, but you’re asking me, and it’s probably hard to tell a guy that you aren’t doing the job when your best guy isn’t playing,” Taylor said  via Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press.

While the Ryan Saunders experiment didn’t go as planned in Minnesota, he likely has a long career in basketball ahead of him. He’s just 34-years-old, so he should have the opportunity to grow from how the job went with Minnesota.

Sometimes, it’s just time for a change. Maybe Ryan Saunders will be better off for it.
