The Loyola Ramblers found their way into the March Madness tournament this year. Which means a lot of attention was undoubtedly set to be on their lovable 102 year old chaplain, Sister Jean.
Sure enough, prior to their game against Ohio State, Sister Jean spoke on why it’s ok to pray on March Madness games this time of year.

Unfortunately for Sister Jean, her prayers weren’t answered this time. The Buckeyes dominated her beloved Ramblers early and often for a first round victory.
Immediately after the game, fans swarmed social media to make the poor chaplain the butt of many jokes.

Prior to the tournament, Sister Jean spoke on how excited she was to be joining the team for their trip, as well as her own popularity growing in recent years.
“People said to me, ‘Is this going to your head?’ ” she said to Chicago Tribune. “No, it’s not going to my head. I just try all the time to make people happy, to be happy myself. And if I make people happy and it’s good for my congregation what I do, and good for Loyola what I do, I’ll do it. I have a lot of fun doing what I do, and that makes me happy.
“I’ve changed in that I have a lot more to do. I have to be responsible to say the things I do say on television or whatever. And when people write to me or call me, I try to answer their questions and do the things they ask me to do — to say a prayer for them, to bless them, to consider going to their school to do something for them, to respond to reporter. I never say no.”
Sister Jean will now be forced to go back to Chicago earlier than she had hoped. But that’s not to take away from all the fun she’s been able to have with the Ramblers for the past five years.
