Terence Davis Arrested For Alleged Assault Of Ex-Girlfriend: Toronto Raptors Seeking More Information

New York City Police have arrested Toronto Raptors rookie guard Terence Davis for the alleged assault of his ex-girlfriend. The incident took place at a luxury high-rise in Manhattan according to multiple reports. It is unclear what sparked the altercation but, apparently, things escalated quickly, with Davis striking the woman in the face repeatedly.

The Toronto Raptors reported that they are aware of the incident and are seeking more information. Police say Terence Davis, 23, now faces charges of third-degree assault and criminal mischief. “The two got into a verbal dispute and the subject hit the victim in the face, and then grabbed [and] broke the victim’s phone,” Det. Denise Moroney told CBC News in an email. Meanwhile, Terence Davis’ ex-GF was taken to the hospital after complaining of swelling and pain in her left eye. There she was treated for her injuries and then released (TMZ Sports).

Terence Davis joined the Raptors as a free agent last season after attending the University of Mississippi. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. Joining other star players like Miami Heat’s Tyler Herro and Chicago Bulls PG Coby White.

Assault charges against a woman are never a good thing, but I especially hate to see them with people that are in the public eye, like professional athletes. In New York, 3rd-degree assault is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in jail. Criminal mischief can result in a jail term of up to 1 year, probation up to 3 years, a fine, and restitution. A criminal conviction could prevent Terence Davis from being able to cross the US-Canada border. This poses a big issue for Davis looking ahead to the 2021 NBA season. However, if convicted, we probably wouldn’t be seeing Terence Davis in a Raptors jersey when that time comes.
