Proposed NBA Playoff Format in Orlando Looks Eerily Similar to the Awesemo NBA2K Playoff Sim Bracket

We’ve got a full blown Spider-Man meme on our hands with the proposed NBA Playoff Format which broke Wednesday morning. We finally got some clarification on what a NBA restart in Orlando will look like thanks to Woj:

Twenty-two teams. July 31 to October 12. Eight regular season games per team followed by the playoffs. The 16 current playoff teams will be joined in Orlando by the New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards.

If the ninth seed is more than four games behind the eight seed, then the eight seed makes the playoffs; if they are less than four games behind the eight-seed then there will be a play-in tournament with double-elimination for the eight seed and single-elimination for the nine seed.

I wonder where we’ve seen this before? Our on Dave “Loughy” Loughran chimed in (by the way, you can catch him, Josh Engleman and Ben Rasa on the Awesemo Daily Sports Show each weekday at 12 p.m. EST):

It’s nearly identical to the Awesemo NBA2k Sim Playoff that we ran in April. In that sim, the play-in Blazers lost in the NBA Finals to the Bucks so if the sim is any indication, don’t sleep on the play-in teams!

THE NBA IS BAAAAACK!
