Philip Rivers Not Ruling Out NFL Comeback Amid Colts Rumors

After it was announced that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz was out 5-12 weeks for surgery on his foot, many fans were calling for the team to pry Philip Rivers out of retirement for one last run.

Despite the fact that hPhilip Rivers is currently fulfilling a dream of his to coach high school football, he left the door open to a potential NFL return if a team comes calling at some point next season.

“I’m not predicting I will play in December or January, for that matter,” Rivers said. “One, you’ve got to have somebody who wants you, and two, it’s got to be right.

“But I have not completely ruled that out.”

Despite the clear short-term fix the Colts would receive if they were able to get Philip Rivers to come fill-in while Carson Wentz is hurt, there’s not much logic in the move otherwise.

Say Wentz only has to miss a few games during the actual season, what would happen when he comes back? I’m not so sure Rivers would be willing to stick around as a backup for the rest of the year as he seems content in retirement.

I think a Nick Foles-Frank Reich reunion would be much more likely.
