“Pandemic P” Is The Latest Flavor Of Paul George’s Playoff Notoriety

In the waning moments of Wednesday night’s NBA Western Conference Playoffs Game 2, a Los Angeles Clippers 127-114 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Paul George’s ill-fated nickname “Playoff P” (one self-proclaimed by George in recent years) took on an update best suited for 2020 via Twitter birds chirping.

The original moniker was first derived during a press conference amidst the start of the 2018 NBA Playoffs, featuring an opening round between the Utah Jazz and Paul George’s team at the time in the Oklahoma City Thunder:

Naturally for Paul George, the self-knighted nickname did not stick for the right reasons, as the Thunder lost the series to the Jazz 4-2, and the name grew legs of its own humorous variety.

Fast-forward to post-COVID outbreak 2020: where the NBA Playoffs are played in a bubble at Disney World, Paul George having been a transplant member of the Los Angeles Clippers for the length of the season, and where failed nicknames can’t be lived down.

As Paul George wrapped up his evening in Game 2 with 14 points in 32 minutes on 4-for-17 shooting from the field, Twitter birds were just barely getting laced-up for their game…

…while his fans were nothing short of the deserved outrage.

Paul George and the Clippers will have the opportunity to right the ship and justify his original entitlement on Friday night against the Mavs in Game 3.
