Nick Saban Speaks On The Gus Malzahn Firing

Alabama’s Nick Saban and Gus Malzahn had plenty of great battles over the years. However, Auburn has decided to part ways with Malzahn after eight seasons. Saban had some thoughts on the Gus Malzahn firing during his presser earlier today.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Gus,” Nick Saban said via Game 7.“He was difficult to play against when he was the offensive coordinator. He’s always been difficult to play against as a head coach. Their teams always played hard. Their team is always well-coached on both sides of the ball and special teams. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Gus.”

During Gus Malzahn’s run at Auburn, he went 68-35. He also won the National Championship during his first season in 2013. Malzahn’s Auburn team seemed to fizzle in recent year, and the team’s brass seems to think it’s time for some new blood to shake things up.

Malzahn will always have this big Auburn moment against Nick Saban and Alabama, though.

That will always be one of the craziest sports moments of all time.

Guz Malzahn should have a lot of teams calling for his services. He’s a proven winner, and he’s bound to land on his feet somewhere. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even see him square off with Saban again in the near future.
