NHL Slaps Rangers With Hefty Fine For Publicly Criticizing George Parros And Department Of Player Safety

After Capitals’ dirty play expert Tom Wilson injured Artemi Panarin during the Rangers-Caps game earlier in the week, the NHL opted not to suspend the repeat offender. Because Wilson was not suspended, the Rangers released a statement where they lashed out at the league, and called for NHL head of player safety George Parros to be fired.

Now, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman slapped the Rangers with a $250,000 fine for publicly ripping the league, and calling out Parros.

“Public comments of the nature issued by the Rangers that were personal in nature and demeaning of a League executive will not be tolerated,” Bettman’s statement read.

“While we don’t expect our Clubs to agree with every decision rendered by the Department of Player Safety, the extent to which the Rangers expressed their disagreement was unacceptable. It is terribly unfair to question George Parros’ professionalism and dedication to his role and the Department of Player Safety.”

Shortly after the Rangers released their statement condemning George Parros, the team shockingly let go of team president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton. It was reported that Davidson and Gorton had nothing to do with the initial statement, and tried to distance themselves from the whole situation.

The Rangers claimed there was no correlation between the firings and the drama with the NHL.
