Colin Kaepernick playing in the NFL again isn’t going to happen. We’ve got 95-year-old Josh McCown signing a practice squad deal with the Eagles which pays him $12,000 a week to stay home. Not that Kap would want it, but if he can’t even be considered for a gig like that then he has no shot. (P.S. Josh McCown will be backing up Carson Wentz III in the NFL 40 years from now).
“Fake Interest” in Colin Kaepernick
Pro Football Talk recently reported that NFL teams have “zero interest” in Colin Kaepernick as the season approaches. More disturbingly, a “source with knowledge” reported to PFT that an NFL team even “faked interest” in Kaepernick following the murder of George Floyd.
“In the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, a sense emerged that Colin Kaepernick was right all along, and that the process of moving forward would necessarily entail putting Kaepernick back in the NFL. The momentum was palpable, at least for a little while.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, there was some “fake” interest expressed immediately after Floyd’s death, seemingly out of guilt. There has been zero interest expressed as to Kaepernick “in months.”
At one point along the way, NFL Media reported that teams had contacted “friends and associates” of Kaepernick, and that they would be contacting his agent when they “get to the point where they’re confident enough that they think they can work out a contract.” So either they never got to the point of confidence that they can work out a contract, or it was all just more bullshit.”

Looking back on the entire Kaepernick situation, it’s honestly fucking amazing that he never made it back in the league. Forget whether you think he is or was good enough to be a starter in this league. He’s always been good enough to be a backup at the very least. Matt Schaub is still backup quarterback in this league. Matt Schaub!
Considering the things that NFL players have done and been given another chance, Colin Kaepernick’s blacklisting from the NFL is just baffling. It may be the most baffling circumstance in the NFL this millenium. It’s been nearly four years since Kap took the field last so it’s possible that time has run out for him to ever make a return.
Commissioner Roger Goodell has already admitted that the NFL made a mistake in not “listening to NFL players earlier about racism.” Notably absent was any mention of Colin Kaepernick, Words are nice, but they are just words. Every team is free to act on their own accord. I get that. Whatever the reasoning is for not signing Kaepernick, a memo to the owners could be sent out. You know a, “we fucked up, somebody sign Kaepernick now. It won’t make it right, but it at least shows we are trying.”
