The New York Rangers announced earlier today they they will let go of team president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton.

This news comes just a day after Tom Wilson was let off easy by the NHL after injuring Artemi Panarin with a dirty play after the whistle. The Rangers organization released a statement, condemning the league, and calling for NHL head of player safety George Parros to be fired immediately.

While the Rangers say it’s a coincidence that the firings occurred at this time, fans aren’t buying it. Many believe that ownership was unhappy with the decision to lash out against the NHL in wake of the Tom Wilson rampage.

We might never know if Tom Wilson can be to blame for John Davidson and Jeff Gorton being fired, but it does certainly look suspicious.

While the Rangers took a step in the wrong direction this season, they have some bright young spots on the team, and it certainly seemed the wholesale changes to their front office were not coming this offseason.

George Parros and Tom Wilson are still doing just fine, but Gorton and Davidson will now have to look for jobs elsewhere.
