NCAA Official Bert Smith Is Reportedly Alert And Stable After Collapse

Everyone watching the Gonzaga-USC Elite Eight game was reasonably distraught when referee Bert Smith randomly collapsed on the court early in the game. Medical personnel were quick to come to the aid of Smith, who was quickly carted off the floor.

While no word has been released on what may have caused Bert Smith to hit the deck, the NCAA has revealed that the veteran ref is ‘alert’ and ‘stable’. He will also not be transported to the hospital at this time.

This seems like great news on Bert Smith. Hopefully he recovers quickly, and we see him back on the court very soon.
