Minor League Team Pays Tribute to Harambe on His Birthday

Minor league teams have to do the best marketing they can in order to get asses in the seats. Usually this entails some kind of strange promotion. During the team’s game, Saturday against the Salem Red Sox, the Fredericksburg Nationals wore jerseys with Harambe’s face on it in what would have been his 22nd birthday.

Harambe was a 17-year-old gorilla who was tragically killed at the Cincinnati Zoo as part of a rescue mission. Following his death, Harambe became a pop culture sensation, and now his memory is being kept alive once again.

The limited-edition jerseys have additionally been put up for auction with 100% of the proceeds going towards the Dutch Gorilla Foundation!

This is why Minor League baseball is special.
