Minnesota Twins’ Josh Donaldson Scores The 2 Millionth Run In MLB History

There’s no denying that the sport of baseball has been around a while. But did you know before Saturday that the MLB has been around long enough to be closing in on 2 million total runs scored?

On Saturday, the 2 millionth run in Major League Baseball history was scored. Josh Donaldson of the Minnesota Twins had the privilege of crossing the plate on a flare down the rightfield line by Nelson Cruz.

And no, MLB didn’t even have the footage of Donaldson actually stepping on home plate in the above video, posted by the league’s official Twitter account!

But fans can rest assured, we do have pictures of said 2 millionth run:

At least we know it definitely happened and that Josh Donaldson didn’t miss the plate or something.

Honestly, that Twitter video is a microcosm of the terrible brand marketing that is putting baseball behind other professional sports leagues. Once so popular that it was known affectionately as ‘America’s Game’, MLB viewership has been on a steady decline now for several years.

Rather than actively promote the game’s biggest stars, baseball has instead elected to experiment with a bunch of bogus new rules.

Exhibit A: starting every extra inning with a ghost runner on second base. GTFO with that BS!

As for this 2 millionth run in MLB history, unless you are a total baseball nerd or follow such people on social media, you would’ve never known the milestone was even nearing. MLB could’ve played it up a heck of a lot more than they did.

Instead, they couldn’t even get the actual run-scorer in the video.

It’s not like Commissioner Rob Manfred is doing the sport any favors. After all, he openly referred to the World Series trophy as just ‘a piece of metal’.

But it’s okay everyone, he did apologize after the fact!

I still can’t get over that one. It’s no wonder why baseball has been usurped as it has.

Anyways, congrats to MLB on the historic 2 millionth run being scored that next to no one heard about.
