Miguel Cabrera Doesn’t Care About A.J. Hinch’s Cheating History And That Kind Of Matters

Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is one of the best hitters of this generation.

The veteran is one of the most well-respected players in the game of baseball, and he’s sure to be a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer whenever he decides to hang it up. Cabrera also dominated the game during a period of time when cheating was a huge storyline in the MLB. Not once was Cabrera ever accused of taking PEDs, or doing anything that might affect his legacy in a negative way.

So when Miggy was asked about his manager, A.J. Hinch, and his history of sign-stealing with the Astros, his answer was kind of a big deal.

Miguel Cabrera claims that he really doesn’t care about the whole sign-stealing thing.

“That’s bulls—. … I don’t care about that,”  Cabrera told ESPN’s Marly Rivera. “In the end, it’s baseball.”

Most people in and around the game of baseball are still not over the Astros sign-stealing scandal that resulted in a year-long suspension for A.J. Hinch. Cabrera, on the other hand, doesn’t even think the scandal was significant.

Is it possible that the whole Astros cheating story was blown way out of proportion? Most people would argue no, but the fact that Miguel Cabrera has taken that stance is interesting nonetheless.

A.J. Hinch has remained apologetic for his role in the elaborate sign-stealing scheme put in place by the Houston Astros. However, he still refuses to admit that the cheating correlated to the team’s success.

“We put ourselves in a situation at the end for it to be really ugly. And we deserved everything that happened,” Hinch told Rivera. “But we did a lot right. We got [an Astros] team from the rebuilding stage all the way to the top for a few years in a row. And the work that the players did, the work that the staff did, the front office, gets a little muddied with the way that it ended. And that’s unfortunate.”

Definitely unfortunate for the Astros that their run of dominance will always carry an asterisk. If you ask Miguel Cabrera, he’d say that’s ‘bulls***’.
